Power Recipe Searches

Search-and-delete, search-and-import, and search-and-move operations are needed by those who manage many large cookbooks.

Search and Delete

“I have allergies and it would be nice to search a cookbook for one or more ingredients, and then delete or modify those recipes.”

  1. Open the recipe selection list (Recipes… Recipes… or use the “R” toolbar button).
  2. Select “All Recipes” radio button, then press the Search... button.
  3. In the search keyword window, select "any of" and in the textbox enter all the ingredients you can't eat (separate strings by commas or enclose in quotes), check the ingredients box, then press Search.
  4. You should now have a search results list that includes all recipes that have at least one of your keywords.  Select them all in the search results list, then press the Tag button to tag them all for a later operation (namely the delete operation).
  5. Then, back in the recipe select window, press the "tagged recipes" radio button.  Edit any of the recipes you need to modify.  Select all the recipes in the list then press the Delete toolbar button to delete the tagged recipes.

Search and Import

”I would like to search all my cookbooks for a particular word - ie “BBQ” or “Smoke” - then copy all of the matching recipes into a cookbook.”

  1. Create a new cookbook (File... New Cookbook...), or open an existing cookbook (File… Open Cookbook…) to receive the searched recipes.

2.      Select File… Import Recipes… then select any other cookbook as the import source.

3.      Select “all recipes” radio button, then press the Search... button.

  1. In the search keyword window, select “all cookbooks” radio button to extend the search across all cookbooks.
  2. Select "any of" and in the keyword textbox enter “BBQ” “smoke” etc. (separate strings by commas or enclose in quotes), check the “name” and “ingredients” check boxes, then press Search.
  3. Use the Apply button in the search results window to load the search results recipes into the import queue on the Import Recipes... window.
  4. Press the Import button to import the matching recipes into your new cookbook.

Search-and-export is a similar operation to search-and-import; either can be used for this purpose.

Search and Move

”I would like to search a cookbook for a particular word in the recipe name, then export all of the matching recipes into another cookbook and delete them from the open cookbook.”

  1. Open the recipe selection list (Recipes… Recipes… or use the “R” toolbar button).
  2. Select “All Recipes” radio button, then press the Search... button.
  3. In the search keyword window, select "any of" and in the textbox enter the keyword(s) (separate strings by commas or enclose in quotes), then press Search.
  4. You should now have a search results list that includes all recipes that have at least one of your keywords.  Select them all in the search results list, then press the Tag button to tag them all for a later operation (namely the move operation).
  5. Then, back in the recipe select window, press the "tagged recipes" radio button.  Select all the recipes in the list then press the Move toolbar button to export the tagged recipes to another cookbook.
  6. You will then be prompted to confirm your desire to delete the exported recipes from your current cookbook.
